President’s Report

Well, it’s already the half way point! Actually I’m lying when I type that because I’m actually writing this report before I go to the Under 19’s Male National Championships this year so it’s still November. That being said I’ll likely update little bits here and there before it goes out with the one week notice in December so it will still all be relevant!

Before I get into it, I want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Just because I’m worried once again my committee report will be too long and you wont see my well wishes! Hehe. Seriously though, spend the occasion with your loving family and friends, cherish the moments that this time of year tends to create and go into 2019 with a positive and happy vibe. I know that this is will be exactly I’ll be doing while eating as many fruit mince pies I can get my hands on!

Here is the latest news and announcements:

  • T20 Game: The T20 is on December 29th at 2pm (game start). Please be at the ground 1 hour before…. kidding, you’re not umpiring so just get there 5 minutes before but be ready to fetch some balls in the Swan River as you’ll likely be fielding down there because, you know, you were late! Cricket gear is available so you don’t need your own. We’ll have a BBQ going and the Bar (with tab) will also be open Please wear your WACUA Polo shirt! RSVP now at https://www.wacua.asn.au/event/t20-game/
  • Memorandum of Understanding: With Daniel taking on the role as Match Officials Manager we’ve seen some great progress with the MOU and both parties are now overall happy with its content. This has been a grind but we’re really thankful to the WACA for allowing us to negotiate what both parties believe is a fair agreement now. With that in mind, the Committee is sharing the document now so that we can vote on enacting it for season 2019-20.
  • Pay rates: Season 2019/20 pay rates need to be presented to the WACA before December 31st this year so the Committee has already put together the proposed pay rates. Most game formats under the proposed structure will receive a $10 increase while a small number of games will just get a $5 increase. U15/U17 grand finals are a big beneficiary of our payment balancing system and will see a $15 increase. These pay rates are just proposed and need to be approved by the WACA and its board which we believe they will. Rest assured that unlike this season where we needed to fix some of imbalances that crept in over the years no game format is worse off next season!
  • WACA weekly email out: In providing a consistent communication strategy for all umpires we’ll be contributing to the WACA’s email out that Daniel is putting together. Make sure you keep your eye out for them to see all the latest news, events and umpiring milestones from the association!

With the December General Meeting happening on 18th, we’ll have bigger and better raffle prizes, a much larger bar tab and hopefully have the ICC Test Match umpires join us. This meeting should be a great one so don’t miss it!

Kudos finally to those who are reading this… I should do a joke here to see how many people will come up to me at the meeting and be like, “don’t quit the day job and become a comedian”. Hehe. Okay here it goes anyways:

What is the difference between Cinderella and the Aussies? Cinderella knew when to leave the ball.

Thanks everyone! Have a Merry Christmas, and a blessed New Year!

Upcoming events are the Test Match Breakfast with Life Members (already paid for) and our post-Christmas T20 game, which we’re budgeting $500 for food, drinks, cricket balls and the like. Even if you’re not playing in the T20, be sure to get along and enjoy a warm day out in the sun!
