President’s Report
Here is the latest from our President, Trent Steenholdt (president@wacua.asn.au)
- Welcome new committee members: I’d like to welcome and thank Nick Middleton and Vijay Kumar for coming on board this month as our new committee members. Their input has already been great, working on events like the Annual Dinner and finding a suitable venue. Nick and Vijay fill two vacancies made by the departures of Daniel Smith and Kirsten Funston who I want to thank for their contributions to the association this season.
- Planning for next season: At the last committee meeting, we had the pleasure of having Luke Douglas with us who gave some input on his thoughts on where he would like to take cricket umpiring next season. Some of the topics discussed included improving value for our members, solving player behaviour issues, revising how we do the registration fee, improving the quality of training and most importantly, double down on the overall recruitment of new umpires to remove solo umpiring in the system. Work has only just started in this space and will continue during the off-season months; having something really exciting for WA umpiring in season 21/22. Work on this will be done likely by some type of subcommittee of the WACUA working with Luke so please if you have feedback, please send it through to Ashlee at secretary@wacua.asn.au.
- Next season’s Presidency: While this season has not been all that great for me, I want to make sure that, moving forward the WACUA is in the best possible position to face the challenges that will come in the post-COVID era. When I shared my sob story last meeting, I didn’t actually share the full story and while mental health has been a major challenge, I also have some problems with my physical health following surgery earlier this year (yep, when it rains, it pours). Upon reflection, I’m not sure that I’m the right person to take on the presidency next season, so I’m putting out the feelers to all members to consider this role. It’s a very rewarding and satisfying role, but I would be lying if I said it was an easy one. I’m optimistic, however, that all the hard work I’ve done these past four seasons and the work previous President’s like John, Matthew and Stephen have done has made this role much easier than the challenges it faced in the last decade. An excellent example of just that is I was able to take time away from the role, but the association still functioned and operated very smoothly.
If you’re interested in the role, please contact me at president@wacua.asn.au, or come chat to me at the meeting.
If, of course, there is no interest between now and the AGM, I’m happy to continue with the role as the association is still very important to me. I would like to make sure the plan though there is in place a plan to transition sometime in the future.
I wont be a stranger and will still be a very active member of the association. I also have no plans to stop the sponsorship I do via my business Cortana Design.
Secretary’s Report
Here is the latest from our Secretary, Ashlee Gibbons (secretary@wacua.asn.au)
Hi everyone,
We have two major events left for the rest of the season. Firstly the Grand Final Breakfast on the 27th of March, and secondly the Annual Dinner on the 10th of April. Please pencil both these dates in your calendar – it would be great to see as many members there as possible.
I hope you all had a good end to the home and away season and good luck to all those involved in the upcoming finals series.
Thanks,
Ashlee

Minutes from the February General Meeting:
Treasurer’s Report
Here is the latest from our Treasurer, Andrew Micenko (treasurer@wacua.asn.au)
Hello,
It’s been another quiet month with the finances. Since the last meeting, we have paid for the bar tabs for our last two general meetings from the cheque account, and have also paid for February’s BBQ out of cash on hand. The other payments that went out were for refunds to two of our life members that also paid for a WACUA membership out of their WACA registration fee. We earned a small amount of interest, and brought in $49.80 from the last raffle.
The spreadsheet showing our earnings and expenses is attached below.
Have a great week everyone! See you at the meeting.
